Leland
was born on October 7, 1991 in Somerville, New Jersey. He joined Cub
Scout Pack 758 as a Tiger Cub where his dad was his Den and Webelos
leader. He earned his Arrow of Light and bridged to Boy Scout Troop
758 in March 2003. When his family moved to Finksburg in January,
2004, he transferred to Troop 395. Leland is an active member of
Venturing Crew 202, a co-ed unit sponsored by the Maryland Department of
Natural Resources. In addition, he participates on an
Envirothon Team, an extension of the Venturing Crew, which competes
annually at the county and state levels.
Leland is being recognized
as an Honorary Everyday Hero because of his many achievements and his
Eagle Leadership Project which was landscaping a hill side at the Roaring
Run Baseball Field Complex. The project included planting native
bushes, shrubs and flowers to alleviate existing erosion and run-off
problems, installation of a pride garden to beautify the park and
construction of a new concrete stairway and rail to prevent recurrence of
the erosion problem and resultant safety hazards. To partially fund
his project, Leland sought and was awarded a competitive Chesapeake Bay
Trust Grant. |

He
has held several leadership positions within
the
troop
including
Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader as
well as Librarian.
Through
his Troop and Crew experiences, Leland has become a seasoned backpacker
notably Canoeing 100 miles on the Allagash River in Maine, backpacking in
Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, attending the Canadian Jamboree
and participating in a 115 mile trek at the Philmont in New
Mexico. He has served scouting at the Capitol District Camp Tomahawk
and at the Carroll District Summer Day Camp as a Den Chief.
Leland
is a junior at Westminster High School where he is a member of the
National Honor Society and the
Green Earth Club. He also provides
tutoring, is
the Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team and runs Varsity Indoor and Outdoor
Track. He plays soccer on the
Blackwolves soccer team affiliated with the
Westminster Wolves Soccer Club.
